The Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE) Won the Thailand Toray Science Foundation (TTSF) Award

Privy councilor General Surayud Chulanon presided over the ceremony for the presentation of the Science and Technology Awards. This was the nineteenth S&T Research Grants and The Thailand Toray Science Foundation (TTSF) Awards.

This year JGSEE, under the jurisdiction of Associate Professor Dr. Sirintornthep Towprayoon, won the Science and Technology Award for its outstanding performance on research and the high caliber of its energy and environment personnel development.

Associate Professor Dr. Nutta Laohakunjit from the Division of Biochemical 
Technology, School of Bioresources Technology won science and technology research 
grants in the fields of agriculture and biology for her research project entitled, 
“Production and extraction of high potent functionalities and biological activities 
of polysaccharides isolated from seaweeds Ulva intestinalis for nutraceuticals
Dr. Sikhirin Yookong from the Department of Physics in the Faculty of Science,
won an award for his research entitled, “Lagrangian 1-from structure integrability

Associate Professor Dr. Sakarindr Bhumiratana, the KMUTT president, also attended this prestigious ceremony to congratulate the award winners.

SIT student won first runner-up in Thailand’s Network Security Contest 2012

Mr. Pichaya Morimoto – a student in Computer Science (CS), School of Information Technology, King Monkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) – together with students from other universities under the team name ‘Connectify’ won the first runner-up position and received the prize of 40,000 Baht from “Thailand’s Network Security Contest 2012″. The contest was organized by UniNet, Office of the Higher Education Commission and The Communication Solution Ltd. (TCS) on 8th February, 2013 at the Anoma Hotel, Bangkok.

This year, there were 265 teams from all over the country, participating in the contest. They qualified by a written exam, and only twelve teams were selected for the final round. The twelve successful teams were required to analyse data from a computer in a network by various methods. The judges thought the Connectify team did a great job, and awarded the team a prize.

KMUTT Innovators are Superb, Sweeping many National Innovation Awards

The SMART LAB, a KMUTT research team, comprising the following team members: Asst.Prof.Dr. Anak Khantachawana, Mr. Chaiyong Koikul, Mr. Kittikun Wichairat, Mr. Nakorn Nunai, Mr. Tawin Buasri, Mr. Naritcha Torsuthkanok, Mr. Narongrit Ponha and Miss Kunthika Mogdara swept two awards from two Innovation Competitions. They won the Smart Innovation Awards 2012. It is a competition organized by the SAMART Corporation Ltd (Plc.) in collaboration with the Business Incubation Center, and the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). The KMUTT team won for their work entitled “Smart Material for Medical Work”. Also, they won the Silver Awards from the True Innovations Awards 2012: The Reality in the Idea Seed Type, for their work entitled “Time Saving Bone Disease Treatment Equipment”.  Their innovations were selected from more than 1200 competing innovations nationwide.

These two innovations are the starting point of research for commercial purposes to reduce the country’s import dependency in these areas.  They are accompanied by a concrete business plan for real, practical use.

Three KMUTT Faculty Members Won the National Research Council Awards

On February 2, 2013 at Impact Forum, Muang Thong Thani, The Office of National Research Council (NRCT) granted the National Research Council Awards, namely: outstanding national researcher awards, research awards and thesis awards for the year 2012 together with the Innovation Awards for the year 2013.   This ceremony was presided over by His Excellency Dr. Suraphong Tovichakchaikul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs as the chairman of The National Research Council.

Three KMUTT faculty members were granted these prestigious awards:

Associate Professor Dr. Sakamon Devahastin won an outstanding national researcher award in the field of engineering and industrial research.  His expertise includes drying of foods and biomaterials, processing and characterization of food biomaterials, mathematical modeling, and particulate systems.

Dr. Worachart  Wanawong won for the best thesis in the field of physical sciences and mathematics for his research study entitled, “A Study of Wave Behavior as a Result of Typhoon in South China Sea by Means of Numerical Model”.

Associate Professor Dr. Surachai Suksakunchai and his team won an award for the study entitled, “Dual Language Book for Promoting Reading of Hearing Impairment Students Using Sign Language”.

Associate Professor Dr. Sakarindr Bhumiratana, the KMUTT president, also attended this ceremony to congratulate the KMUTT award winners.

KMUTT Google Apps for Education

On January 31, 2013, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) and Google 1launched “KMUTT Google Apps for Education”. At this event, Asst. Prof. Dr. Prasert Kanthamanon, Senior Vice President for Administrative Affairs/ Chief Information Officer reported the background of “KMUTT Google Apps for Education.” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sakarindr Bhumiratana, President, presided over the event. Following this, there was the presentation of the benefits and the operation of Google Apps by the Google team in the Chamras Chayapong Conference Room.

Google Apps allows lecturers and students to have easy and convenient access to Apps Mail, Calendar, Docs, and other websites. All KMUTT students, lecturers, officers, and alumni will receive an account under the university domain. The system will be supported by Google, which will guarantee efficiency and security.
