Community Alliance

Building a coalition for effective outcome and beneficial impact to the society

KMUTT has initiated Community Alliance Project mainly focused on the effective outcome and has anticipated the beneficial impact to people in society, especially to the partners and stakeholders of University.  What we have done for being a model or leader in transferring knowledge and extending it to neighboring community is know-how to develop management system and also creating the mechanism to follow up the result of performance in many levels.

Community Alliance Project principally includes the activities and the three projects that are known as 1) University and school 2) University and development of career, quality of life and environment and 3) University and Royal Projects and Projects Undertaken through the Initiative of His Majesty the King. To complete all tasks, the Research and Service Center for Community and Society belonging to Institute for Scientific and Technological Research and Services, the Center for Promotion and Support the Royal Projects and Projects Undertaken Through the Initiative of His Majesty the King under the Pilot Plant Development and Training Institute were assigned to work as a team and being a coordinative center jointly working with many divisions inside and outside University. To perform task and provide resources which could be helpful for accomplishing the objectives, and also to keep track and evaluate the outcome are their responsibility.

KMUTT has jointly collaborated with many organizations. Those are the project initiated by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology, National Science and Technology Development Agency, National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, National Electronics and Computer Technology Center. Local schools in the area of Bangmod, Bangkhuntien, Thonburi, Samutprakan province, those around Rajchaburi Campus are included as well. Moreover, there are numerous high schools in poor and remote areas such as Nan, Mae Hong Son, Rajchaburi, Chachoengsao, Phang Nga, and Amphur Omkoi of Chiang Mai which are under the development project administered by Maejo University, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, Graphic and Music School, iSchool, Omkoi Hospital. Software Industry Promotion Agency and Water Resource Division (region 1) in Lampang province has been recruited in the project. The private companies such as Hongsorn Software Ltd. and Sammok Software Ltd., are also provided funds.     

The performance outcome can be summarized as follows:

  • Institute/division/faculty and workforces of KMUTT have more chances to learn how to integrate teaching and learning by using research questions from community. It will lead to the creation of new knowledge and concrete development of the community.
  • External networks are more strengthened. They have joined in planning for work, promoting, providing financial support and integrating core competence of each other. Some private sectors such as Petroleum Authority of Thailand, Betagro Co.Ltd., and Lactasoy Co.Ltd., have preferred to work with the University and also give financial support.
  • Due to the social acceptance on KMUTT’s reputation in a wide range, it brings about a budget supported by government and the organizations in network. The budget was distributed to develop projects in the area surrounded and put in the action plan of Royal Projects and Projects Undertaken through the Initiative of His Majesty the King in order to support to Royal Project Foundation of KMUTT.

  1. Darunsikkhalai School
  2. Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment

Founded in 2001, Darunsikkhalai School was established for being a pilot school in Constructionism principle, a new approach to teaching and learning. The School has been committed to undertake the three critical missions; 1) to deliver new generation of college student 2) to produce new generation of instructor and 3) to be the research and development center for educational innovation in which technology, academic performance, Art and Culture, Thai ways and ethical practices are integrated for life-long learning and be the best practice for learning innovation.

Networking with other schools:   Darunsikkhalai School has joined in networking with other Thai school that are; Rungarun School, Sathyasaith School, Thawsi School, Plearnpattana School, Children’s Village School, Wansawangchit School, Banrak Kindergarten, Jittamette School, Meta School, and Panyaprateep School. All mentioned schools have discussed on the issue of drafting the proposal for management of alternative education including curriculum evaluation, campus assessment and how to pass the entrance examination to university. These issues will be proposed to the education council for drafting the Second Decade of National Education Reform. The alternative educational commission finally has been appointed by the encouragement of Darunsikkhalai School.     

From the initiative plan in 2001, the Constructionism principle has been propagated to other universities such as Chiang Mai University, Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University and Chiang Mai Rajabhat University.

The Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment – JGSEE or known as the Excellence Center of Energy and Environment was set up under the support of Office of Commission on Higher Education and Postgraduate Education and Research in Science and Technology Development Agency. Additionally, the School has received funding from the Energy Conservation Promotion Fund of the Ministry of Energy for developing postgraduate education and research in energy technology and environment since 1999. In implementing the project, the 5 Universities has been working as a collaborative network;

JGSEE is recognized as an outstanding school in generating numerous significant researches and increasing the quantity of research outputs for KMUTT. It results in positioning KMUTT in the same row of research universities comparable to other leading Universities.

JGSEE determines to recruit their own students and construct laboratories themselves while requesting resources from networking universities in providing adjunct faculty, laboratory and R&D-oriented curriculum so that the graduated students and researches in area of the School would be outputted.

  • Networking  – There are several institutes, organizations, well- known private companies both in and out the country which have been involved. All of those are ; Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization, National Science Technology and Innovation Policy Office, National Science and Technology Development Agency, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, Siam Cement Public Company Ltd., SCG Chemicals Ltd., Thammasart University, Chiang Mai University, Kyoto University (Japan), University of Toronto (Canada), Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (U.S.A), and United Nations Development Programme.
