Funding

Information about *funding* for students of KMUTT.

KMUTT, recognized as the National Research University (1 of 9 universities), sets up its policy to encourage, support and develop research work in order to create KMUTT intellectual potential.  The Research and Intellectual Property Promotion Center (RIPPC) has been in operation to co-operate to attain and manage research funds.  Allocation of each fund depends definitely on its goals, scopes, conditions and criteria.  The research funds can be divided as follows:

  • KMUTT Research Fund
  • Research Grants
  • External funding in Thailand
  • External funding from other countries

To enhance research work to be more diversified and international, KMUTT create the academic network and partnership with other countries through 2 following programs:

  • Visiting Professor
  • Post-doctoral Fellowship

Rationale

Nowadays, teaching, learning and research have changed rapidly and thus the University has to continuously pursue technology advancement.  To have foreign special professors with knowledge and capability as visiting professors will consequently enhance and develop teaching, learning and research in KMUTT to be more diversified and international, create knowledge and experience sharing and build up the academic network and partnership in order to promote the international atmosphere in KMUTT and subsequently lead it to the global top university.


Objectives

  1. To develop the curriculums, teaching and learning, and research in the University.
  2. To create the academic network and partnership with foreign special professors.

Duration

Approximately 1 month


Qualifications

  • Be a foreign professor with a doctoral or master’s degree in the fields related to the curriculums of the University with good knowledge, capability and expertise in his/her field.
  • Be able to teach and/or conduct advanced research in the University throughout the funding period.
  • In case of working in other workplaces, an applicant must submit a letter from his/her office to certify his/her leave during the funding period.

Budget

The amount of the fund is not more than 500,000 Baht for each office.


Remarks

  1. The Visiting Professor Program can be proposed once in a year before the end of the budget year, and the Academic Subcommittee shall be resolved to approve the fund for use in the following budget year.
  2. In cases where a foreign special professor is unable to travel to work according to the approved schedule, the fund shall not be proposed for postponement to the following budget year.  However, the office is requested to prepare a new application for the fund to be submitted in the following budget year.

Rationale

Currently, research papers on Science and Technology are advanced and changed rapidly.  Conducting research requires more knowledge and experience, especially from various countries.  To have foreign researchers with knowledge and capability in Science and Technology to do research in KMUTT will not only encourage more research in the University but also promote and develop research work in KMUTT to be strengthened up to the international levels by focusing on producing academic work to be published in the international journals.  Moreover, it will create new knowledge in research and academic communities in KMUTT, enhance knowledge and experience sharing in conducting research on various new aspects, and produce a diversity of research work to be beneficial to the University and the nation.  Therefore, the Post-doctoral Fellowship has been proposed for application.


Objectives

  1. To develop the curriculums, teaching and learning, and research in the University.
  2. To create the network and partnership in research on Science and Technology.

Duration

The duration depends on the length of the research period proposed by a researcher and his/her mentor in KMUTT or the length of the period agreed by a post-doctoral researcher and his/her mentor in KMUTT.


Qualifications

1. Post-doctoral Researcher

  • Be a Thai or foreign researcher with a doctoral degree in Science or Technology graduating for no more than 2 years up to the application date.
  • Be no more than 35 years of age.
  • Have at least 1 research paper (as the first title of the article) published in the international journals in the previous 2 years.
  • Be able to conduct research with other personnel in KMUTT throughout the program and do not apply for any other funds simultaneously except having approval from KMUTT.
  • In case of working in other workplaces, an applicant must submit a letter from his/her office to certify his/her leave during the funding period before signing the funding agreement.
  • In cases where a post-doctoral researcher is a foreigner, he/she must conform to the Regulation of the National Research Council of Thailand Regarding Approval for a Foreign Researcher to Conduct Research in Thailand B.E. 2550.


2. KMUTT Researcher and Mentor

  • Have the best knowledge and capability in conducting research with his/her research papers published in the international journals or granted the patent regularly and continually in the previous 5 years.
  • Be a head of a research group who have high potential in building a research team and network.
  • Have already been supported by other internal research funds such as TRF Senior Research Scholarship or research funds from other countries because this fund will support only a post-doctoral researcher’s remuneration and transportation. 
  • Be available to provide suggestions for other researchers throughout the program.
  • In case of being a researcher in the field which has an inadequate supply of researchers such as Engineering, Physics, Mathematics and some fields of Technology, he/she will be given special consideration.
  • In cases where a post-doctoral researcher is a foreigner, a researcher and his/her mentor in KMUTT must submit a proposal to the Research and Intellectual Property Promotion Center no less than 90 days in advance in order to be complied with the Regulation of the National Research Council of Thailand Regarding Approval for a Foreign Researcher to Conduct Research in Thailand B.E. 2550, and notify the post-doctoral researcher of conforming to the said Regulation.

Budget

  • Remuneration for each researcher is not more than 25,000 Baht per month.
  • A foreign post-doctoral researcher will receive an air fare for 1 round-trip international flight between his/her home country and KMUTT at the actual cost or no more than 70,000 Baht per person.
  • A Thai post-doctoral researcher will receive an air fare for 1 round-trip domestic flight between his/her hometown and KMUTT at the actual cost.

Remarks

  1. An application for a Post-doctoral Fellowship Fund can be submitted at any time throughout the budget year.
  2. In cases where there are problems concerning the operation, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs shall be authorized to approve of the fund and make a decision.  The judgment of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs is considered final.
